Fred Hutch‘s Dr. Jim Olson has been selected as a Featured Speaker at the 2014 SXSW Interactive conference on March 9th, 3:30 in Salon H, Hilton. Northwest NeuroNeighborhood members will recall that Dr. Olson spoke about his brain cancer research at the 3rd Neuro-Networking event in July 2013.
Dr. Olson’s team has launched the crowd-funded Project Violet, a citizen science initiative that enlists the help of the community to develop anti-cancer compounds, “optides” that attack cancer cells while leaving healthy cells untouched.
One of the “optides” is being developed by Blaze Bioscience as “Tumor Paint” and is now in human clinical trials in Australia.
Follow Dr. Olson (@DrJimOlson, https://twitter.com/DrJimOlson) on Twitter. He will be live-tweeting during the session, using the hashtags #tumorpaint #projectviolet and #sxsw.
“Like” the Project Violet Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/fhcrc.project.violet). Project Violet uses Facebook to keep our friends, family, fellow researchers, and drug adopters up-to-date on how our “citizen science” efforts are progressing.
